E.Musee 's museum staff collected the land in the online British Museum and assembled a virtual piece of the British Museum. The auctioneer of E.Musee decided to set up an auction and chose the Ru ware (a kind of ceramics with ice cracks) in the British Museum as the symbol of this sale, as he saw it as a metaphor for the times.
At a certain period in ancient China (Song dynasty, AD.960–1279),with the loss of the northern part of their empire to the Jurchen and the move of the capital to Hangzhou, Emperor Huizong of Song no longer had access to either the Ru kilns.
Nowadays, the Ru ware, correspondingly, are still there, but we cannot enter the exhibition room because of the pandemic. We are in the predicament of our times, but if we build empathy over history, then we will find ourselves in a circular narrative.
The auctioneer hopes that this sale of virtual worlds and objects will bring the British Museum, its artefacts, back into our lives in the form of fictions. Notice that the starting bids in the Catalogue are all priced in time.
